The Social Model of Disability
Over the past twenty years there has been a huge evolution in the social awareness of disability. Although the NHS and other core institutions cling nostalgically to the Medical Model (you are wrong and we'll put you right), the rest of the western world is fairly happy to develop thinking around "the world" being the disabling environment which needs to make reasonable adjustments.

In my own experience interventions can be both Enabling and Disabling depending. The main weakness in the system has never been satisfied completely by this model. However, as there is such a rift between ability and achievement, it is a very good place to start.
